Family versus Strangers

When you  eat and drink,
you are obligated to feed
strangers,orphans and widows
as well as all other poor people.

However, if one locks his doors
and eats and drinks only with his family
and does not feed the poor

and others going through hard times,
this is not the joy which was commanded,
but [merely] satisfying his stomach.

About such people, it is said :
“all who eat it will be contaminated
for their bread is for their own appetites.”
Such parties are disgraceful to those who participate in them

{Mishneh Torah, Rest on a Holiday 6:17-18}
